In common, aromatherapy is safe for home use, anyways some condition of using essential oils are must be noticed for avoiding unexpected effect. If you are in doubt when using essential oil, the best way is to consult with trained practitioner or physician.
The below is general guideline for your safety aromatherapy practice.
1. For beginner should study for caution of using essential oil and when practice it is better to use in a little amount (a few drop) for test your satisfaction and also allergy.
2. Pure oils should not be applied directly to the skin.
3. Oils should not be swallowed unless they are supplied by a fully trained practitioner and used under his/her supervision.
4. Some essential oils especially sage and savin are to be avoided by pregnant women. Anyway for other aromatherapy oils, it is better to consult with physician or trained practitioner before practice as well.
5. Strongly aromatic essential oils are said to alter homoeopathic so do not use or store them together.
Avoid the following essential oils together
Calamus, Bitter almond, Boldo , Camphor, Pennyroyal, Goosefoot, Horseradish, Mugwort, Mustard, Rue, Tansy, Thuja, Sassafras, Wintergreen, and wormwood.
